      Juror's Comment

      From Janet Jones:

Mr. Wax has given us a magical image of a familiar Bay Area scene. This goes far beyond being at the right place at the right time. The line of electrical towers begins with a strong vertical thrust into the sky and travels diagonally across the bay, where the base of the foothills is punctuated by spots of white light. The colors are glorious.

      Great scale and wonderful light

    Artist Statement

The selection of the photo "Baylands Rain Storm" was taken 10 minutes from my home. It is important to note that I had the opportunity and convenience to revisit the bay lands at the same location many times in the past to experience and be witness to the ongoing changes of the day, month and year. The photograph selected captures huge powerful rain clouds that loomed above that late afternoon. My Nikon D700 digital camera and tripod quickly found its way to the familiar accessible boating dock. I was poised and ready. It was cold, rainy and hailing pellets of ice. My hand and attached cable release was in my warm jacket pocket. The sun penetrated its luminous rays above, to define a changing dramatic ominous vista. The excitement kept building, my pulse quickened. My cable release functioned upon command to record a moment in time. A powerful emotional experience that will forever reside within me.
