    Artist Statement

This photo was shot during the month of June, in Squaw Meadows located in the West Central Mountains of Idaho. I was there to photograph a family wedding in Boise. Afterwards, my brother-in-law, a local firefighter, took me on a tour to photograph some of his favorite spots. It was a strangely smoldering, stormy kind of June day.

1994, there was a devastating fire which was the worst to hit the area since 1910 and the worst fire season ever recorded there. He described it “as if the entire forestry was incinerated, as though it had been hit by an atomic bomb.”

This beautiful 'bear grass' (Xerophyllum Tenax) only blooms once a year and must have specifically suited conditions.

It is amazing to see this life after death, the strength to rise above it all!
